2 face animal cruelty charges in Lebanon, Va.

Four dogs were seized and two people charged in an animal cruelty investigation in Lebanon, Virginia, Russell County Sheriff Steve Dye announced Thursday. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on Jan. 10 about a home on Gay Avenue, according to a news release from the sheriff. Read more here
Russell County Police Department arrested two people in their home for animal cruelty charges. Authorities arrested 31-year-old Joshua Phillips and 30-year-old Kendra Kegley in Gay Avenue on Thursday, January 24, 2019. The arrest was conducted after the police department received a complaint on January 10 about possible animal abuse. The team who searched the property found four malnourished dogs. Authorities further added one count of failure to bury a deceased dog to Phillips due to the deceased dog found in his property. Both suspects have been arraigned and are currently waiting for a district court hearing.


Pinnacle Nature Preserve in Lebanon, VA

891-acre Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve serves as the home of rare natural communities and rare species of animals and plants. The globally rare Brachoria falcifera can be seen in the preserve along with the equally rare plants Canby's mountain lover and Carolina saxifrage. A dolomite formation measuring 400 feet serves as the centerpiece of the natural preserve. At present, the preserve is managed and maintained by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation which is responsible for the improvements of its facilities. Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve is located in Honaker, Virginia near the Clinch River and Big Cedar Creek.
